Seems to me that I need a specific driver for es for windows 98 not windows 98 se. Thanks for all the suggestions and support, I know it would be easier to buy and new PC but I feel I know my old computer much better now. You should be able to get your drivers here. The device status reads ‘The drivers for this device are not installed Code 28 ‘. There have been a number of different, incompatible, connectors used for the analogue audio output. On boot up the computer recognises new hardware but this is only described as PCI Multimedia audio device with the driver not installed.

Guys, thanks for all the info. Seems to me that I need a specific wudio for es for windows 98 not windows 98 se. What soundchip is on your motherboard? Do you have any expansion PCI cards?
However, the sound still does not work and the ‘driver’ auido still reported as not installed! These operating systems can read audio CDs as digital data and so it will use the IDE cable ,s then it will be converted to analog by the soundcard. Could it be that the chipset is not working properly?
Thanks, did this but when I run setup. From memory it is the black one. Tried this and still no luck.

There are 3 possible slots, a green one, a yellow one and a black one all next to each other. Do you mean the audio connector?? This is a gateway update for windowsxp so not sure if would work anyway.
If so take them out, and install while in SafeMode.
If there are a number of sockets, have a careful look at the connectors. I also only have win 98 not win 98se! I am trying to fix an old ‘Tiny’ computer with the above board.

I have downloaded the software and run set audlo. If you can tell the difference you will notice, otherwise it won’t worry you.
On boot up the computer recognises new hardware but this is only described as PCI Multimedia audio device with the driver not installed. Which is the one and how do I know which way round to connect the pins?
