Actually yes i did something similar, i set the GPIB address to 0 which didnt actually do anything so i went and got another instrument programmable attenuator, really old as well, first i could grab and plugged that in along with it and changed the GPIB address back to 23 and all of a sudden it worked and it kept working no up3478a how i tried to get it to not work.
